With great beard comes great responsibility.
When you grow a beard, your facial hair will most likely fall under one of two camps (epic or scraggly).
And if you are reading this post, you have most likely opted for the epic beard experience – well done. But your work is not done yet.
Maintaining a beard that you feel proud of means more than just grooming. You have to know your audience and prepare for it.
What do I mean by this?
Let’s use the one and only, Mr. Keith Richards to properly paint the picture for you.
This iconic rock star doesn’t show up to perform in a pair old of sweat pants wearing a baseball cap. No, he tends to rock super slim fit jeans, a leather coat, and quite often, a bandana.
He knows what his fans want to see, and he sets the mood with his demeanor and appearance. What does this ‘God of Rock’ look get him? Well, it’s 2019, and he is still relevant AF.
What’s the point of all of this? Like the great Richards who adapts his swag and style to meet the occasion, your beard must do the same.
Or rather, you have the power of beard oil which you can either use to please or repel those around you.
But before we dive into the list of our amazing beard oil recipes, let’s have a look at the basics.
What does beard oil do?
Beard oil is a great addition to your grooming routine because it acts as a facial moisturizer, beard shaper, and a cologne.
Grooming oil is generally comprised of one main carrier oil and the added essential oils.
The right carrier and essential oil duo can do a lot more than add luster to your beard, it can also reduce skin issues like inflammation.
What is the best carrier oil to use?
Laura McKinnon who is the Creative Designer of Drops of Gratitude (a company that specializes in gemstone energy and essential oils) suggests that you use fractionated coconut oil.
Fractioned coconut oil works well because the saturated fat has been removed so that it stays liquid (even when the temperature changes). And if you can’t find fractioned coconut oil, you can confidently opt for jojoba oil instead.
“When using essential oils, you want to make sure that you cut it with a carrier oil. Some pure oils (like cinnamon) can be caustic on the skin,” says McKinnon.
Why are essential oils so important in beard oil?
“Essential oils have a magic about them, they love to mingle with our body’s natural oils, especially our pheromones,” explains McKinnon.
When it comes to the aromatic nature of essential oils, they have the ability to enhance the mood for not only ourselves but also, for those around us.
And because our sense of smell is 10,000 times more powerful than any other sense, you’ll most likely want to wield the fragrant power of your beard oil wisely.
The right aroma for the correct occasion is a powerful combo to have. And those around you will be glad you recognize this.
Once you have the carrier and essential oils down, you’ll want something to store your beard oil in.
What is the best way to store beard oil?
Keep it simple.
Essential oils prefer natural bottles made of glass, mentions McKinnon.
More specifically, dark amber bottles are ideal, because they keep the medicinal elements of the oils strong.
Now, time to get down to the fun part.
Just as Richards chooses to dawn the perfect rock garb for a concert, you too can customize a specific vibe.
You’ll just be doing it with your beard oil – and we’ve made it easy for you.
McKinnon has provided us with three ideal beard oil recipes that you can wear for any occasion.
Has a woman ever walked by wearing an incredible perfume? Like a magnet, you are drawn to her – the appealing aroma is hard to shake.
The ideal beard oil can do the same.
“Certain oils can enhance our natural pheromones making us more appealing to other humans, and this blend is a great way to enhance the luster of your beard while increasing your masculine essence,” says McKinnon.
When it comes to your off-time (away from dating or work), you are most likely busy running errands, grabbing beers with friends, or heading to yoga class.
Whatever your day off delivers, you may desire a beard oil that reflects a more versatile vibe.
The ‘Casual Man’ beard oil recipe is subtler than the hot and heavy hitter above.
“It is also great for detoxifying and repairing the skin, which makes in-grown hairs and irritation less likely to occur,” says McKinnon.
After all is said and done, you are most likely a man who likes to work as hard as you play.
A beard oil that inspires your concentration, but reduces stress levels is a powerful tool to have.
Set the productive tone for you and those around you at work with the following recipe:
For all recipes, mix the oils together and place them in a glass jar. It’s best to store them in a cool, dark place, suggests McKinnon.
How can you apply your beard oil for the best results?
“When using these beard oil recipes, place a couple drops of blended oils on to the palms of your hands and rub into your beard getting as close to your skin as possible,” explains McKinnon.
You can also use it as cologne by adding a few drops to your pulse points and chest.
Use these beard oil recipes to look and feel epic. And rest assured, they will certainly inspire those around you who are lucky enough to experience your majestic beard and rousing scent.
